• The Character Counts Club has a mandatory meeting this week in the foyer for yearbook pictures before and after school on Thursday-8am & 3:30pm.  We will also be making a decision on our t-shirts.

 ·       Literary Criticism will meet today after school in B101.  ·       Needlework club will meet Thursday afternoon in C104  

• Congratulations to Kelsey Larson.  She is the winner of the DECA raffle for the Chili’s and Rave Gift cards.  Please see Mrs. Greco in the Marketing Lab to pick up your gift cards.  Thanks to all who participated.

 ·        DANCE“A Night On The Town”Date: February 22nd, Friday at the FAACTime: 7 to 10pmCasual Dress… Tickets are $5 in advance and $10 at the door.  Birdville HS students only allowed at this dance. ·        SENIOR SLIDESHOWSeniors… it’s that time of year… turn in your pictures for the senior slideshow.  Give your pictures to Nurse Amy, Samantha Smith, Channing Butler, Rebecca Steward or any of your STUCO officers.  If you want to be in the slideshow, turn your pictures in by Feb. 29th.·       ACADEMIC NEWS This past weekend 42 Birdville High School students competed in the Mansfield Legacy Invitational Academic Meet.  Birdville placed 6^th overall out of 41 schools and 2^nd among the 4A schools.  Total number of students entered for the competition was 1200!Competition results:Science – Sean Castillo 1^st and Kadin Norder 4^thLiterary Criticism – Miranda Cunningham 4^{thSpelling and Vocabulary – Amanda Roberts 4th} Team winners:Calculator Team – 1^st 4A SchoolsNumber Sense – 9^th and 10^th Grade Team place 2^ndScience Team placed 2^nd over all schools and lost by the team contest by 6 points (one question) Birdville High School Journalism Team won 1^st place overall for the 3^rd time this year!Congratulations to the BHS Academic Team Members and Sponsors.

SWIMMING NEWS

Congratulations swimmers: The Mighty Hawk Swim team competed in the Region 2 Swimming and Diving Championships this past Friday and Saturday.  The boys and girls medley relays each narrowly missed qualifying for finals, finishing 9^th in each event.

Angela Andrus qualified for the finals in the 50 freestyle and finished 7^th while swimming an excellent time of 26.5.

If you see a swimmer today, congratulate them on their excellent season.

Swimmers… don’t forget practice in the morning at 6am at the swim center.

GYMNASTICS

 The Lady Hawk gymnastics team had a tough night Friday, with their top all around being out with an injury. Other team mates stepping up were, Kristy Peterson – 2^nd on beam & Amy Zimmerman – 2^nd on bars. Way to go girls.  

NEWSPAPER STAFF

Congratulations to the Newspaper Staff Students who competed in the Mansfield Legacy Invitational Tournament Saturday.  In a field of 60 students from 3, 4, and 5A schools Priscilla Totiyapungprasert won 1^st place in News Writing and 5^th place in Editorials.  Rachel Stonecipher won 1^st place in Headline Writing.  Taylor Dukes won 4^th place in Feature Writing.  Rachel Fountain won 4^th place in News Writing and out of 41 schools the team won 1^st place Journalism Team!!!  Way to go!!!

WRESTLING NEWS

 Richard Rivera placed sixth at the Region I Wrestling Tournament. His leadership and dedication will be missed.  Thank you, Richard for an outstanding season.  

UIL ACADEMIC TEAM RESULTS FROM SATURDAY

 This past weekend 42 students from Birdville competed in the Mansfield Legacy Invitational Academic Meet. We placed 6^th out of 41 schools, and 2^nd among 4A schools. There were 1200 student entries, and the competition was enormous. In Number Sense our 9/10 grade team placed 2^nd .The Calculator Team placed 1^st in 4A schools,The Science team placed 2^nd over all schools, and only lost the team contest by 6 points (one question).In Science Sean Castillo placed 1^st    & Kadin Norder placed 4^thOur Journalism team won 1^st place team overall, for the third time this year. Spelling and Vocabulary- Amanda Roberts placed 4^thLiterary Criticism – Miranda Cunningham placed 4^th  

STUDENT ACCEPTED INTO SOUTH BY SOUTHWEST FILM FESTIVAL

Congratulations to Alethea Swanson for the acceptance of her film “Never Go Into a Boy’s Bathroom” by the South by Southwest film festival in Austin. Way to Go Alethea.

A NIGHT OF COMEDY

Everyboyd come see a Night of Comedy, Monday, Feb. 11th, @ 7pm.  Best of all… it’s free!  You’ll get to see to funny one-acts, for whom the Southern Belles Toll & an Actor’s Nightmare!  It’s in the Birdville Auditorium and it should be done by 8:30pm at the latest.

WRESTLING NEWS

 Congratulations to Senior Team Captain Richard Rivera and Sophomore Daren Slick on qualifying for the Region I Wrestling Tournament in Canyon, Texas.  Both wrestlers were District Runners-up.  Congratulations to Alberto Ochoa (Freshman) and Alex Seibel (Junior) for placing 3^rd and who are alternates for the Regional Tournament.  Go Hawk Wrestling!!!!!!  TRACK ANNOUNCEMENT Attention all Track athletes:Fundraiser money is due TODAY at 3:45pm  Repeat, Fundraiser money is due TODAY.  

COLORGUARD COMPETITION

 Our BHS Colorguard received First Place Saturday at Birdville’s Coliseum and advanced to the next level, SAAA.  Way to go Colorguard!  Best wishes on your next competition in Grapevine on February 16^th and thanks to Coach Laura Lynch and the team for their hard work and dedication!!!  HIGH ON LIFE HOL meeting will be this Thursday morning at 7:45am in room A207.  See you there!  BASKETBALL ANNOUNCEMENT The first 100 students at the basketball game against Boswell on Tuesday will get in free and receive a free hot dog!!!  Come to the game and support the Hawks & District Champion Lady Hawks!!!  UIL FUNDRAISER TONIGHT UIL Academics is having a fundraiser at Chan’s Mongolian Grill tonight from 5-9pm!  A portion of each meal will be donated to BHS UIL Academics so please join us for dinner!!!   JROTC FUNDRAISER Do you enjoy hanging out with your friends?  JROTC will be selling tickets to the Sunday, February 10^th Ft. Worth Brahmas game at the NYTEX Center, right across the street (Hawk Ave.).  The tickets cost $12 and will be sold during all 3 lunches and in the JROTC room, A305.  Support the JROTC program and catch an action packed hockey game with a group of your friends!  ART CLUB 

There is an Art Club Meeting & Studio Night tomorrow!  The meeting is before or after school in Coach Brown’s room, Art Lab 1.  The Studio Night follows the afternoon meeting.  This meeting is SUPER important so it is vital that you go!

ATHLETICS

Birdville ISD Parents and Athletes are encouraged to get a jump on the college selection process by attending a FREE Introductory Seminar Monday, Feb. 11^th, at 6:30pm at the Thomas Coliseum.  This seminar will be conducted by the Collegiate Athlete Educational Program.  Pre-Registration must be completed by Feb. 4^th. (email becky@collegiateathlete.com).  The seminar, “The Big Picture” will begin at 6:30pm.  Both the student athlete and a parent must attend together.
