Also, ALL seniors: new local scholarships are arriving and they need to make time to come check them out before the deadlines are over. The challenge is on for the Class of ’08 to have MORE scholarships than last year’s seniors and they had over $4 million!!!

THE LADIES FINISHED THE SEASON 23-3-5 INCLUDING 22 SHUTOUTS WHICH TIED THE NATIONAL RECORD SET BY PLANO SENIOR HIGH IN 1989.

BISD HOCKEY
Birdville beat Bishop Lynch last night 6 to 2.
The Hawks had 24 shots on goal, and Bishop Lynch had 28.
Birdville’s Josh Skinner had one goal, Karl Akerhielm had two goals, Garrett Noel had two goals, and Tristan Pierce had one goal.
These goals were assisted by Garrett Noel, Casey Savage, Chris Genberg, Josh Skinner, Aaron Skinner, Zach Ambrose, Charles Dawson, and Tyler Marion.
Birdville goalie Jonathan Ayala had 26 saves.
Their next game will be Thursday, April 3rd… time, location, and opponent are TBA.

In the 4A District UIL one act play contest level on Tuesday, March 25, 2008, BHS Theatre competed against some stiff artistic competition with Fossil Ridge and Saginaw High Schools advancing to area level. While BHS did not advance, we received the following prestigious acting and tech awards:

GOLF NEWS
During the break your Golfing Hawks were hard at work.
At the rain plagued Lost Creek Invitational your boys captured first place with first place individual honors of a Varsity tournament going to Freshman Taylor Henk and for the Ladies, Freshman Tori Martinez.
At the Birdville Classic this past Monday the Varsity boys placed 2nd with individual 3rd place honors going to Brady Tice and your golfing Lady Hawks won the tournament with 2nd place individual honors going to Tiffany Hambrick.
Wish these fine people luck as they move on to the District Championship beginning next week.

PTSA ScholarshipsAttention All Seniors You can apply for two scholarships with ONE APPLICATION! PTSA scholarship applications are available in the counselors’ office or on the PTSA website. Qualified applicants will be eligible for at least one of five scholarships awarded by the BHS PTSA and one given by the Birdville Council of PTAs. The Birdville Council scholarship recipient will also be considered for the Griggs Scholarship. The deadline for application is Thursday, April 10, 2008.

BHS Theatre competed in the Zone level competition of UIL One Act Play Contest on Monday, March 17, 2008 and was one of two plays out of four to advance to the next level of competition, the District Level. Our “Flowers for Algernon” cast and crew received the following awards for their outstanding work: Most outstanding Crew member: Stevie CarpenterHonorable Mention All Star Cast: Chloe Day, Jordan CarpenterAll Star Cast: Jessica Taylor, Bethany NarvaezBest Actress: Brie KellyBest Actor: Garrett Sullivan The cast and crew competes again on Tuesday, March 25 on the UIL One Act Play District level at Saginaw High School. Business Professionals of America attended their State Leadership Conference last week from Thursday-Saturday. The following students placed at State: Adam Parker—1st in State in C++ Programming as a National QualifierBrian Bain—2nd in State in Advanced Spreadsheet & Analysis as a National QualifierSteven Davidson—8th in State in Integrated Office Applications as a National Alternate Congratulations to all the students that attended. They were great representatives of Birdville High School. Adam and Brian are on their way to National competition in May.
COLORGUARD NEWS
Once again, the Birdville “High Flyers” Colorguard returns with a trophy and the honor of representing BHS. The BHS Colorguard competed at Bowie HS on Saturday, March 8th. After receiving 2 promotions to higher level categories, this was the first competition at the Scholastic AA level. The Colorguard performed their greatest show to date receiving Third Place overall and the First Place Score in Ensemble Excellence. SPECIAL OLYMPICS ANNOUNCEMENT
JoAnne Ferris, the coach of Birdville Special Olympics would like to thank Coach Hatcher, Coach Chaney, and the Birdville Hawks Baseball team for helping out with the annual Mini-meet. It was a big success because of your willingness to volunteer your time to help our athletes. They all had a great day! We would also like to recognize the BHS Special Olympics athletes on the great job they did at the meet. Last Friday at the Keller Invitational, the boys team took a season high 3rd place team finish. They were led by Ryan Graf who won the all-around, high bar and was second on vault and parallel bars. Strong performances were also turned in by Robert Enriquez, Daniel Hughes and Christian Santiago.This Friday the boys will compete against the Irving Schools at the Shannon Center at 6:30.Congratulate these boys on their hard work.
